Spring is the best time of the year for many tourists and locals in the Washington D.C. area. For our nation's capital, spring represents more than just the warmer weather. Flowers blooming, people are happy, and events are happening. Vacationing or just embracing what Washington D.C. has to offer is what's mesmerizing about Washington D.C. Cherry blossoms are also blooming. People all over want to witness the beauty of the cherry blossoms and participate in the many events surrounding their arrival. History of the Cherry Blossom The first ceremony took place on March 27th, 1912. It began by planting the first two trees by First Lady Helen Herron Taft and Viscountess Chinda, the wife of the Japanese ambassador. Every year since First Lady Taft's involvement it has been a tradition for the First Lady to be involved in the annual Cherry Blossom Festival. All First Ladies have been serving as honorary chairs, taking part in planting ceremonies and greeting guests at opening ceremonies. Today, the Cherry Blossom Festival encompasses four weekends and draws more than 1.5 million people, worldwide. Best Places To See The Cherry Blossoms Jefferson Memorial: Just across the Tidal Basin, the Jefferson Memorial provides a skyline view of the beautiful flowers. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial: This memorial is surrounded by newer cherry blossoms that were planted in 2011. Japanese Lantern: The Japanese Lantern is lit each year by the Cherry Blossom Princess who represents the Embassy of Japan. The lantern is a twin of the Tokyo Temple's lantern. Tidal Basin Paddle-boats: Renting a two or four-person paddle-boat and pedal out for panoramic views. The Celebration: This year's festival will be from March 20 to April 12. The Opening Ceremony - It will take place at the Warner Theatre on March 21st. This event will feature world-famous performers and musicians. Tickets are free. Kite Festival - For the past 50 years it has been a tradition to fly a kite on the National Mall and it is held on the grounds of the Washington Monument. People from all over come and showcase their creativity on their kite decorations and design. Guests are invited to bring their own kites and kids can make a kite at one of the activity stations. This event is free for the public and held March 28th, 10 am - 4:30 p.m. Tidal Basin Daily Events - Throughout the three-week festival there will daily concerts that will be held at the ANA Performance Stage. This event is also free, daily from 10 am - 6 pm National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade - A tradition every year is the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade. It is full of color and life. There will be tons of balloons, marching bands, celebrity entertainers, and performers. This 10 blocks long parade starts on Constitution Avenue from the National Mall to the Washington Monument. The event is free, but you may purchase Grandstand Seats at $20. This event is for all ages, and this year it will take place on April 13th from 10 am - 12 pm. Petalpalooza - This event is held at The Wharf, this event includes stunning, interactive art, games, and activities. There will also be live music on three different stages, and to end the night, a firework show. This event is free to the public and is held on April 11, 2020, from 1 pm - 9 pm. The Fireworks start at 8:30 pm. Pink Tie Party - The annual festival fundraiser hosts an event that benefits the National Cherry Blossom Festival, Inc. A nonprofit dedicated to promoting the beauty of nature and international friendships through a variety of mediums. Attendees can expect superb food from the city's top chef, open bars, unique entertainment, live music, and auction. Tickets are available for purchase, right here. This event is held on March 20, 2020, from 7 pm - 11 pm. Rent a vehicle - Since there is so much to see, and so much to do during the annual Cherry Blossom Festival. After 162 games in the regular season. After being down 19-31 in the regular season, they overcame adversity and began to fight. During the Playoffs, they faced elimination not only once, but five times. That is five chances their dreams could have been tarnished, fighting against three Cy Young Award Winners: Clayton Kershaw, Justin Verlander, and Zack Greinke. Facing five eliminations, coming from behind from when they were down, this team continued to fight. As they survived each elimination stage, ther dream continued to live on. Their fight song were exchanged with the 'Baby Shark' theme song. This woken up the energy behind the fan base, kept the team motivated, and the fans to keep the energy at an all time high. The team kept being motivated, facing five elimination games, facing three cy young winners, and using the tunes of a 'Baby Shark' to keep the spirits alive, kept them fighting. After going to the 7th game of the World Series, the team went down early on, but they continued to fight, and not only did they fight, but at the bottom of the 9th, after the 3rd out. The Washington Nationals not only won, but they won a war, and the fight was finished. Major League Baseball MLB Championship has come to an end, and the 2019 MLB World Series Champions are the Washington Nationals.   [caption id="attachment_1117" align="aligncenter" width="300"] The 2019 MLB World Series Champions, The Washington Nationals.[/caption]   The next thing on their agenda is the Washington Nationals victory parade. The victory parade will be held in Washington D.C. Sunday, November 2nd at 2:00 p.m. eastern standard time. The Parade will begin on Constitution Avenue NW at 15th Street NW and will proceed east along Constitution Avenue NW and end on Pennsylvania Avenue NW at 3rd Street NW with a team rally. Fans attending the parade are encourage to: Text "NATS" to 888-777 to receive text alerts on safety, transit, and weather updates from the District about the parade. It will be hard to navigate around Washington D.C., and rideshare services will be surging all day. Metro will be overcrowded.
